About Red Chair
Red Chair brings the very best home-grown artists to regional Queensland communities and beyond.
Red Chair is an independent Queensland performing arts company based on Gubbi Gubbi / Kabi Kabi Country on the Sunshine Coast.
For more than 24 years, Red Chair has worked alongside independent artists and communities to bring new work to life. We support artists to create, present and tour their work, build strong partnerships, grow audiences, and develop sustainable career pathways, with a particular focus on regional Queensland.
At the heart of our work is connection: between artists and audiences, between creative practice and place, and between people coming together to share live experiences. We believe in the power of the arts to foster belonging, spark conversation and strengthen communities.
Each year, Red Chair delivers a suite of regional live music tours, known for their high-calibre artists and polished, professional delivery. Alongside these flagship programs, we create place-based and community-centred projects including The Keeper Project, a visual arts initiative grounded in local stories, and provide ongoing rehearsal, presentation and touring opportunities for The People’s Orchestra. We also partner with communities to develop bespoke projects tailored to local ideas and ambitions. Get in touch to start a conversation about what we could create together.
We are known for our collaborative producing approach, our long-term relationships with artists, and our commitment to making ambitious, high-quality work accessible beyond metropolitan centres. Touring with care and intention, we provide the practical support that allows artists to focus on what they do best, creating and performing, while audiences encounter extraordinary work close to home.
Red Chair has a long history of collaboration with First Nations artists and communities, particularly with Gubbi Gubbi / Kabi Kabi and Jinibara peoples, and we continue to deepen these relationships through our programming, partnerships and governance.
