Flamenco Summer Workshops

From February 15, 2018 until February 18, 2018

At Arte Flamenco Dance School


Kick off the New Year at the Flamenco Summer Workshops with visiting international artists direct from Spain – dancer Francesca “La Chica” and percussionist Andrej Vujicic – and renowned guitarist / director – Andrew Veivers.

Details and workshop costs are below.  Full registration to access all workshops is available for $320.

Venue - Arte Flamenco Dance Studio (2/40 Wilson Ave, Woombye QLD 4559).  Studio is fully airconditioned.

Flamenco Dance - Caracoles Con Abanico (4hrs)
All Levels - Beginners welcome
Choreograph dance with the abanico including marking and breaks and some fresh funky "abanico"or fan moves which we will incorporate into this beautiful "palo" style that is performed and danced in tablaos in Seville. Please bring a fan (Fans will also be available to borrow or purchase at the workshops).

Workshop times - 
5:30pm - 6:30pm: Thursday 15 & Friday 16 February
10:00am - 11:00am: Saturday 17 & Sunday 18 February

Cost: $80

Flamenco Dance - Solea Con Manton (6hrs)
Intermediate Level - some flamenco dance experience needed
Choreography of two full "letras" or songs of Solea including marking and breaks with lots of new manton technique and styles.  Please bring a manton /shawl for use in the workshops. 

Workshop times - 
7:30pm - 9:00pm: Thursday 15 & Friday 16 February
2:30pm - 4:00pm: Saturday 17 & Sunday 18 February

Cost: $120

How to Dance & Play Por Fiesta Tangos (3hrs)
All Levels - Beginners Welcome
This course is all about "gusto" and "arte"and is designed to bring out your personality.  Learn how to dance, mount and perform a pataita por tangos and how to accompany in a feista or "juerga". It will include live singing, palmas, cajon and guitar culminating in a demonstration juerga at the end of the session. 

Workshop times - 
12:00pm- 1:30pm: Saturday 17 & Sunday 18 February

Cost: $60

Flamenco Percussion
All levels - Beginners Welcome
Cajon and palmas workshops with Andrej Vujicic.  Grab this rare opportunity to  get inspire and gain insight into the foundations of flamenco rhythms and fell by one of the top flamenco percussionists direct from Seville.  Palmas sounds, techniques, contratiempos (offbeat) exercises, introduction to grooves and palos. 

Cajon Workshops (3hrs) -
6:30pm - 7:30pm: Thursday 15 & Friday 16 February
11:00am - 12noon: Saturday 17 February
Cost: $60

Palmas Workshops (2hrs) -
1:30pm - 2:30pm: Saturday 17 February & Sunday 18 February
Cost: $40

Flamenco Guitar (2.5hrs)
All Levels - Some guitar knowledge needed
In these exciting workshops, Andrew Veivers will introduce you to the lively, dramatic rhythms and techniques of flamenco guitar. Take a journey into the world of flamenco guitar as Andrew dispels some common myths and exposes a few ‘smoke ‘n mirror’ tricks along the way. Workshops will include accompaniment for the Fiesta Tangos. Bring your guitar and notebook!

4:00pm - 5:30pm: Saturday 17 February
11:00am - 12noon: Sunday 18 February

Cost: $50

Places are strictly limited so registration is essential to avoid disappointment!

What to Wear (Dance Students):
Female students: Closed toe shoe with a solid heel of at least 3cm, ie. Character style shoe, comfortable pants or full skirt & leotard/ fitted top.
Male students: Heeled shoe or boot (preferable with a heel of at least 3 cm, such as a cuban style heel), comfortable pants and t-shirt or shirt.
