Vera Lynn epitomises the Land of Hope and Glory and its courage and determination in the face of tyranny and aggression. Born on struggle street, she was driven to perform to help support her family. As her star rose, she was driven by a selfless duty to her nation and the vital role of lifting national morale. No other artist is more synonymous with this remarkable period of history. Her influence extended across the globe and gave hope to divided families everywhere that one sunny day, they truly would meet again.

When Lord Mayor Graham Quirk heard the news that Vera Lynn was celebrating 100 years, the Brisbane City Council invited award-winning Brisbane songwriter and artist, Francesca de Valence to prepare a musical celebration to honour this incredible woman.

Francesca de Valence is an independent contemporary artist, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and educator and the People’s Choice Winner of the 2016 Brisbane City Council’s Youth Initiative, QUBE Effect Awards. She has been acknowledged by the Los Angeles Music Awards with an International Songwriter of the Year Award and nationally with an Australian Songwriting Award, has supported artists including Belinda Carlisle and The Manhattan Transfer and her music can be heard on ABC radio around the nation. In 2014, she founded the I Heart Songwriting Club, an inspiring global online community for songwriters around the world based on weekly songwriting tasks.

It’s time to celebrate a living musical icon in her 100th year.
