Brisbane Jazz Orchestra (BJO) is a professional 19 piece Brisbane-based big band featuring award-winning vocalist, Ingrid James and Chilean percussionist, Pablo Matus. This big band was founded a decade ago by David Humphreys (who is now based in Sydney). He was succeeded as musical director by Rob Anders (trombonist). BJO has a diverse repertoire which pays hommage to the Great American Songbook, Modern Jazz Songbooks as well as South American music (Brasilian, Cuban, etc.,) The arrangements and some original materials are sourced from within the group, as well as, other notable international and national arrangers.

BJO has performed for many years at the Brisbane Jazz Club, various festivals and corporate events. Some of the shows they have performed were “Havana to Copacabana”; “A Century of Song”; “Stan Kenton to Stevie Wonder”….

They are known for their diversity of feels and grooves from swing to cha chas, calypsos, boleros, salsas, mambos, bossanovas, sambas through to funk.

When dressed in tuxedos and formal dress, BJO presents similar to a big band in the jazz era of the 1950’s. They live up to their motto “Music to make you feel so good!”.
